A great night of volleyball tonight in Green Ridge for the Kaysinger JH volleyball tournament! Our girls went 1-1 this evening with a win over Tipton and a 3 set thriller with #1 seed Sacred Heart! They will be back in action tomorrow in Green Ridge at 9:00am!

What a great night for our seniors. Congratulations to Ryleah, Kaelynn and Karlee for some great Tiger volleyball memories. Tigers get a 3 set win this evening against Windsor.

Ryleah Kennebeck is a senior Volleyball player. After high school, Ryleah plans to attend Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School to receive her cosmetologist, barber, and esthetics licenses. Ryleah would like to thank all of her coaches throughout her high school career but especially would like to thank Coach Larimore for the knowledge given during this season. She would also like to thank her team for being a second family but most importantly she would like to thank her mother for being her biggest supporter of all. Ryleah would like to tell her teammates to never give up and that things will get hard and you will want to quit but there is always something good to come when you persevere. Thank you Ryleah for your commitment to Smithton athletics.

Karlee Ross, a senior captain in volleyball, is proud of earning her leadership role on the team. She says she hopes to see the team keep improving, win districts, and make memories. She plans to go to State Fair Community College to become a sonographer. They don’t currently have a volleyball team, so she’s working hard to make the most of the games this year.

During PLTW, students measured the energy use of several devices ranging from a hair straightener to a large buffer. They also compared the energy use of a modern game system using the Oculus VR headset to that of an old system by using a Nintendo 64 from the 1990s. The N64 actually used a little bit more power despite only having a fraction of the computing power as an Oculus. The N64 power use varied based on how many items were on the screen that the system had to process.

Kaelynn Demand is a senior volleyball player whose main goals are to have a fun year, be a leader in volleyball, and put in hard work. Kaelynn plans to attend Avila University after high school. She isn’t sure yet if she wants to play volleyball after high school, but she wouldn’t say no to a scholarship.

What a great evening for the Smithton cross country athletes. Great performances out of all runners capped off by an individual conference championship for senior Gabe Aitken and conference championship in junior high for Tyler Wilson.

Conference Champs 2023! The varsity boys cross country team takes first in the conference meet.

On Friday, students had an opportunity to attend UCM’s Future Teachers Academy. It was a good day of guest speakers and breakout session with current UCM students who are pursuing their degrees in education. We even got to see Smithton’s Early Childhood CTC students!

Blood Drive tomorrow from 2:00-6:00pm!

The Smithton Cross Country warriors were on the road in Columbia today. We had medalists in all categories. Great job!

Smithton Color Guard won 1st place at Central Methodist band day! Drum Line and Marching Band performed really well and just missed out on trophies!

There was a big "BOOM" in Cole Camp as our Lady Tigers rocked the court and beat Lincoln and Windsor in the Kaysinger Conference Tournament today.
