Smithton's rootEd College and Career Advisor, April Young, had the incredible opportunity to participate in the STARS Counselors Tour at Washington University in St. Louis and Vanderbilt University in Nashville! 🌟
What is STARS? The Small Town and Rural Students (STARS) College Network is committed to expanding pathways to higher education for rural and small-town students by partnering with high schools and access organizations.
April joined 45 other rural high school counselors from across the country to network and learn about the resources these highly selective universities offer to make college more accessible and affordable for rural students. These universities recognize the exceptional talent in our small towns and are working to bridge the gap in opportunities that urban students often have more access to.
Throughout the tour, April attended sessions covering:
🎓 The admissions process
📝 Letters of recommendation
📉 Test-optional applications
💰 Financial aid resources for rural families
🤝 Mentoring & transition programs to support student success
Opportunities like these ensure that our students at Smithton and beyond have the knowledge and resources they need to dream big and achieve even bigger! 🚀💙 #rootEdMissouri #STARSCollegeNetwork
