It is that time of year again. The Smithton R-VI School Board of Education voted on the school calendar for the 2024-25 school year during their regular February meeting. The calendar for next year has 36 hours of inclement weather makeup days built in. This means that the end date for school is scheduled for May 9, 2025 and this date would only change if school were cancelled due to inclement weather (snow days) for greater than 36 hours (which is 6 days). If we were to miss more than 6 days, we would then be required to make up a maximum of 24 hours of school (which is 3 1/2 days). The first make up day would be on May 12th, the second make up day would be on May 13th, the third make up day would be on the 14th and the final make up day would be on the 15th. That final make up day would be a half day. Due to the uncertainty of winter weather, we urge everyone, for planning purposes, to consider May 15th, 2025 as the last day of school.
