PUBLIC NOTICE
The Smithton Board of Education has established filing dates for board vacancies. Three (3) members, each to serve a three-year term of office, will be elected to the Board of Education on April 4, 2023. Individuals may declare their candidacy at the Superintendent’s office, 505 S. Myrtle Ave, Smithton, MO 65350, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on December 6, 2022 and ending on December 27, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. Regular hours for filing are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with the following exceptions during school and legal holidays:
Filing will not occur on days that the school district's offices are closed due to inclement weather with the exception of the first day and the last day.
Office will be open December 6, 2022 thru December 22, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Office will be closed December 23, 2022 and December 26, 2022.
Office will be open December 27, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Eligible candidates must be at least 24 years of age, be a resident taxpayer of the district, have resided in Missouri at least one year prior to their election to the Board, be current in the payment of all taxes as stated below, and be a United States citizen.
Chapter 115 Section 115.342 states:
1. Any person who files as a candidate for election to a public office shall be disqualified from participation in the election for which the candidate has filed if such person is delinquent in the payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, real property taxes on the place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or if the person is a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the state.
2. Each potential candidate for election to a public office shall file an affidavit with the department of revenue and include a copy of the affidavit with the declaration of candidacy required under section 115.349
