This month’s regular Board of Education meeting will be held via a Zoom meeting. Across the nation board of directors for many organizations are continuing to meet in this or a similar manner. The meeting itself can be accessed through FaceBook Live (a live streaming feature for FB users). The meeting will also be recorded and a link will be provided following the meeting.
We are asking that anyone who was planning to be present for the board meeting use one of the above means instead to access the meeting, since our building is closed to the public due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We hope to be open to the public for future meetings, but like everyone we are awaiting the advice from the CDC, DHSS, DESE and our local health officials regarding public gatherings.
If you would like to make a public comment, which is a regular part of all Smithton R-VI Board meetings, we ask that you send your comments to the Secretary of the Board of Education, Mary Kaiser through email at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 1:00 pm on Monday the 11th. The comments will then be distributed to each board member. Below is the statement regarding citizen comments that is used at all public meetings:
Patrons of the district are given an opportunity to address the Board regarding issues excluding personnel, identifiable students, and other items subject to close session discussion. Each patron is limited to three (3) minutes unless the Board President grants an extension. Normally, the Board will not make a decision on issues presented during the meeting, because most decisions require research and thoughtful consideration.
